Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Description

The purpose of the study subject is to provide students with specialized engineering knowledge and abilities to work with building information modeling (BIM), and its application features at all stages of design, construction, and exploitation stages, and to develop students' ability to work in a BIM environment using the innovative technologies.

Aim of the course

To provide sufficient knowledge and skills that students be able to work in a BIM environment.

Prerequisites

Bachelor's studies in the engineering field have been completed.

Course content

1. Introduction to building information modeling (BIM), terminology, and standards. 2. BIM elements, classifier, coding system. 3. GIS databases for BIM. 4. Life cycle stages of building. 5. Levels of detail of the BIM model 6. Common Data Environment (CDE). 7. BIM dimensions 8. Employer Information Requirements (EIR). 9. Preparation of the BIM execution plan. 10. Creation of design and construction planning model (4D). 11. Preparation of the financial model (5D) for the BIM environment. 12. Organization of construction works in a BIM environment. 13. Application of BIM throughout the life of the structure.

Assesment Criteria

1. Terms, standards, and coding systems used in building information modeling (BIM) are described. 2. Use of GIS databases required for BIM, knowledge of BIM model detail levels, BIM dimensions, and ability to upload information to the CDE environment. 3. The stages of the construction project are described according to the stages of the building life cycle. 4. Prepared and presented 3D, 4D and 5D models of the building for the BIM environment. 5. Demonstration of the ability to work in a BIM environment.
