Biology of Forest Mammals and Birds

Description

Biology of Forest mamals and Birds for the students provide main bird and mammals anatomy, morphology, systematcs, ecology and protection issues. The students should be aware on the identification and biology of forest, common as well as rare and protected bird and mammal species. The student should be able to apply the knowledges in the practise managing and protecting wildlife populations, habitats and evaluate forest management impact on rare and endangered in Lithuania and European Union protected species. This course educate tender and respect on Lithuanian forest wildlife and urge rational forest use.

Aim of the course

Familiarize future specialists of forestry with general features of forest mammals and give competences on birds and forest species identification in nature

History, significance and systematics of forest mammals and birds biology science; General biological and morphological characteristics of birds and mammals; Reproduction of mammals and birds; Ecological description of birds and mammals; Importance for humans and ecosystems; Identification features of, birds and mammals species; Field identification of birds and mammals; Species biology, habitats and nutrition; 9. Ecology, population dynamics and conservation of species;

Assesment Criteria

1. Demonstrate knowledges about general biology of birds and mammals; 2. Ability to identify birds and mammals under it’s distinguish features and activity signs; 3. Competent identify habitats of birds and mammals species, abundance in Lithuania and rare species conservation; 4. Know reproduction, nutrition and biological features of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals species
