Transport Systems
Description
This course teaches about the structure of the transport system, peculiarities of its functioning, cargo transportation systems, types of transport means, factors determining their choice, organization of cargo and passenger transportation, planning of optimal routes and calculation of transportation price.Students are provided with theoretical and practical knowledge of the transport system and its management, the skills of systematic and integrated approach to the place and importance of the transport system in the logistics system are developed, the skills of transport system planning, organizing and evaluating are formed. The results of the course are achieved through traditional lectures, case studies, seminars, visits to companies, and integrating the business sector representative lectures during the study process.
Aim of the course
To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the transport system and its management, by developing a systematic and integrated approach to the place of the transport system in the logistics system and in the specific business environment.
Prerequisites
Students must have completed general university and other major subjects (Business Development, Logistics Technique and Technology, Logistics Management, etc.).

1. Components of transport system and their role in logistics.
2. Transport policy in the EU and Lithuania.
3. Freight and passenger transport systems.
4. Modes of transport and their characteristics.
5. Organization and management of transport services. Multimodal and intermodal transport.
6. Modern transport management systems and their benefits.
7. Green initiatives in transport systems.
Assesment Criteria
1. The significance of the transport system, its structural elements described and the peculiarities of their functioning explained.
2. Understood / explained the principles of transport policy making and their influence on the transport system.
3. The most suitable modes of transport for the transportation service selected, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of the various modes of transport.
4. Transportation servicedesigned and the efficiency of it was analyzed.
5. The shortcomings of the transportation organization processwere evaluated and the activity management measures selected to eliminate them.
6. While working in a team was able to plan and manage transportation processes, achieve results and take courageous responsibility for them.
7. Possible solutions to the problems of the organization of the transportation service and the possibilities of applying the principles of sustainable development were independently proposed.
