Introduction to Development Studies

Description

The Introduction to Development Studies is an introductory course to the International Development Studies, where students will get acquainted with the main concepts of development cooperation and fundamental documents and papers regulating, as well as agents and actors formulating and implementing development policies. The course will analyze the evolution of development cooperation and will present its key challenges and trends.

Aim of the course

To introduce the main concepts and theories of international development, the main actors and policies involved, and to reflect critically on the practice of international development.

English language (B1 or higher)

Assesment Criteria

1. Do the students have knowledge of the basic concepts of development studies? 2. Can the students explain the historical evolution of development paradigms? 3. Do the students have understanding of key development policy makers and practitioners? 4. Do the students have knowledge about economic development, institution building, the impact of globalization on development? 5. Do the students know where to find and how to use quantitative and qualitative data related to development studies? 6. Can the students critically evaluate different development financing models? 7. Can the students express their ideas clearly and logically?
