English Phonetics and its Didactics

Description

The course is designed for BA students, future English teachers, and aims at the presentation of the English sound system as well as the development of their correct standard pronunciation while speaking, reading and reciting poems, etc. The students will acquire knowledge about the standard English pronunciation as well as the main dialects and registers. The course also aims at developing listening skills and transcription skills. The students will get acquainted with the segmental as well as suprasegmental aspects and intonation patterns. They will recognise the most typical mistakes due to the 1st language interference, they will find out about the main methodologies on mistake correction, they will develop their linguistic sense and widen their philological horizon. The course also aims at providing the students with didactic knowledge about the aims and objectives of teaching pronunciation and the objects of phonetics in the early and primary stage as well as the teaching syllabus, methods and strategies, the roles of the teacher and the students, evaluation strategies and other issues.

Aim of the course

To develop subject-practical, general philological, as well as personal and professional aspects; to get acquainted with the sound system of the English language, to develop correct pronunciation, transcription skills; to get acquainted with segmental and supersegmental phonetic aspects of language; broaden your philological horizons; to acquire didactic knowledge about the aims, tasks, methodology, etc. of teaching pronunciation and phonetics objects. in the early and early stages of English teaching.

The student correctly pronounces, recognizes and correctly uses the prosodic qualities of language. The student is able to transcribe (transcriptional accuracy 50-100%). The student demonstrates good theoretical knowledge of the subject, connects it with practical, based not only on the main, but also on additional literature. Knows about normative language and basic dialects. The student is able to theoretically and practically analyze the phonetic aspects of English in the context of cohesive language, substantiate cases of mother tongue interference, apply the appropriate methodology of work with errors. The student is able to theoretically and practically apply, plan and manage the educational process, in the early and early stages, has knowledge of the curriculum goals and objectives and content, methodology and strategies, teacher / student roles, assessment, etc. problems. The student is able to use the latest technologies to help develop pronunciation, integrate audio / video recordings and software.
