Media and Popular Culture
Description
This course will look at the popular culture of the United States of America and how it’s portrayed in the media. We will pay special attention to current trends in film, tv, music, art, books and comics, social media, and video games. Our focus will be on the interaction and intersection of these artifacts with current cultural and social issues.
Aim of the course
To create a media literate audience who will be able to critically examine the popular culture artifacts and how they respond to and are informed by cultural awareness and social issues.

Course content
This course will look at the media and popular culture of the United States of America
and how it portrays and deals with various social issues. We will pay special attention to
current trends (but will also get a slight bit of history) in film, tv, music, theatre, art,
books and comics, social media, video games, sports, amongst others. This will be a
discussion heavy class with the goal of showing you a more critical view of the world
you inhabit.
