During the course students obtain the knowledge about physical, chemical and biochemical processes occurring in surface water, groundwater, drinking water purification and wastewater treatment technologies, pollutants removal. The course gives in-depth understanding of the key tools, techniques and management concepts in wastewater management and reuse.

Wastewater treatment: primary, secondary, tertiary treatment, Comparison of industrial and municipal treatment Wastewater treatment technologies and systems. Hydraulics and pumping systems. Wastewater Management, characteristics, flows and pollutant loads, biochemistry and microbiology, sanitary and stormwater collection systems. The main determinants of wastewater quality, methods for quality assessment. Quality Standards, receiving water quality. Legislation of wastewater quality in EU.
Reuse of wastewater. Reuse technologies. Sewage sludge treatment technologies. Requirements for effluents and biosolids application in the environment. Legislation and policy.
Efficient and cost effective solutions. Cost analysis. Economical aspects of wastewater treatment and reuse.
