Dalyko anotacija lietuvių kalba
Skirta studentams, norintiems pasirengti akademinėms studijoms anglų kalba. Besimokantieji plėtoja anglų kalbos žodyną, vartojamą vadovėliuose, paskaitose ar seminaruose, klausymą, konspektavimą, kritinį mąstymą, įvairių tekstų skaitymą, gebėjimą efektyviai ir pasitikinčiai komunikuoti akademinėje aplinkoje ir pristatyti pranešimus. Studentams taip pat glaustai pristatoma Lietuvos kultūra ir šiuolaikinio gyvenimo būdo ypatumai bei plėtojami tarpkultūrinės komunikacijos gebėjimai. Dalykas grindžiamas daugiakalbe prieiga, taikomi įvairūs aktyvaus mokymosi metodai (darbas grupėse ir porose, diskusijos, tekstų analizė, garso įrašų klausymas, vaidmenų žaidimai ir t.t.). Taikoma mišri studijų forma (paskaitos, darbas Moodle virtualioje aplinkoje, savarankiškas darbas).
Dalyko anotacija užsienio kalba
The course is designed to help students adapt to the challenge of academic study in English. It covers main vocabulary likely to be encountered in textbooks, lectures and seminars as well as skills such as listening, note-taking, critical thinking, effective and confident communication in academic environment, dealing with different texts and making presentations. Students are also shortly introduced to Lithuanian culture and contemporary lifestyle along with developing intercultural communication skills. The course is based on the plurilingual approach. A blended learning format is applied (lectures, work in the Moodle virtual environment, independent work) along with various active study methods (group and pair work, discussions, text analysis, listening to audio recordings, role-plays etc.).

1. Demonstrate control of grammatical accuracy, linguistic forms and lexical structures at B1 level;
2. Participate in general nad academic discussions on the given topics, justify and defend their opinion, politely express criticism, give comments, ask questions, answer and respond appropriately;
3. Employ argumentation and critical thinking in preparing and delivering a short presentation;
4. Read, analyse and critically evaluate texts using different reading techniques;
5. Understand people speaking English in different general contexts;
6. Plan and write a coherent essay, reason and use appropriate connecting words and phrases, compare the effects, make conclusions;
7. Deal with major inter-cultural situations.

Lexical and grammatical topics:
1. Describing people: appearance and personality. Clothes. Numbers. Prepositions of place. Word order in questions. Present simple and continuous tenses.
2. Speaking about holidays. Prepositions of time and place. Past simple and continuous.
3. Airports and travelling. Verbs with prepositions. Expressions for paraphrasing. Future aspects: be going to and present continuous. Defining relative clauses.
4. Shopping. Housework: make or do. Adjectives ending -ed and -ing. Present perfect versus past simple.
5. Describing a town or city. Health and the body. Time expressions. Comparatives and superlatives. Quantifiers.
6. Opposite verbs. Adjectives + prepositions. Future will. Review of verb forms: present, past and future.
7. Verbs with gerund or infinitive.
8. Confusing verbs. Adverbs of manner. Modifiers. First conditional. Possessive pronouns.
9. Animals. Phobias and words related to fear. Biographies. Second conditional. Present perfect or past simple.
10. School subjects. Word building: noun formation. Passive.
11.Sports. Expressing movement. Phrasal verbs. Similarities. Word order of phrasal verbs.
12. Say or tell? Verb phrases. Past perfect. Reported speech. Questions without auxiliaries.

Studijų rezultatų vertinimas
Midterm exam – 20%, final exam – 30%, written tests and other assignments during the semester – 50%.
