Dalyko anotacija lietuvių kalba

Dalykas suteikia studentams teorinių bei analitinių žinių apie medijų ir populiariosios kultūros raidą istoriniu, socialiniu, technologiniu požiūriu. Ypatingas dėmesys skiriamas naujausiai Amerikos populiariosios kultūros istorijai ir įvairių populiariosios kultūros pavyzdžių bei atvejų (pop meno, mokslo pasiekimų, maišto ir politinės reklamos) analizei. Užsiėmimai vyksta paskaitų ir diskusijų pagrindu. Dalyvavimas diskusijose privalomas.

Dalyko anotacija užsienio kalba

The course introduces students to the study of contemporary forms of mediated popular culture from different theoretical and analytical perspectives. A specific focus of the course is on recent American history and various aspects of American popular culture, including pop art, scientific breakthroughs, rebellion and political advertising. Classes consist of lectures and discussions of assigned readings. Participation in discussions is required.

1. To understand the economics of WWII and how it affected the privileged classes of the late 1940s.
2. To trace the effects of the “baby boomers” from the 1950s to the present.
3. To be able to discuss why rebellion is an important part of the American landscape.

How Many Roads? Vietnam and Protest Songs. What’s So Funny – Stand-up Comedy takes on the world. Funny Books – Using Superheroes to redefine the American Dream.

Lectures – 30 hours
Group work online – 15 hours
Individual student work (55 hours):
Written paper: 20 hours
Self-preparation for seminars, midterm and final exams – 35 hours
Total: 100 hours.

Studijų rezultatų vertinimas

Midterm – 30%; homework – 20%; exam – 50% of the final grade.
