Description
This course is intended for students who are acquainted with the Spanish morphology and (at least in part) with the usage of the grammatical tenses of presente de subjuntivo and condicional simple and who aim to expand their competence of the Spanish language to Level B2. The objectives of the course are to finish studying Spanish grammar focusing on condicional compuesto, pretérito imperfecto, perfecto and pluscuamperfecto de subjuntivo and to enlarge the students’ active vocabulary, their ability to understand texts and to express themselves in Spanish on a broad variety of topics. The form of studies includes lectures, seminars, self-study tasks and work with TELL ME MORE program and virtual MOODLE environment (on-line work, synchronous and asynchronous conversations and discussion forums, interactive tests and exercises).
Aim of the course
To develop linguistic communicative competence, which includes linguistic, pragmatic, and sociolinguistic components, through reception (listening and reading comprehension), production and interaction (speaking and writing) and mediation (translation) linguistic activities at the upper-intermediate level (B2).

Lexical topics:
1. Globalization, a multi-ethnic and multicultural world.
2. The history of Spain
3. Art, architecture, fiction.
4. Episodes of life and activity of writers, artists, and public figures.
5. Ecology and environmental protection.
6. Phraseologisms.
7. Music of Spanish speaking countries.
Linguistic topics:
1. Revision of the present tense of the subjunctive mood Presente de subjuntivo and the conditional mood Condicional.
2. The structure and use of the complex forms of the conditional mood Condicional.
3. The structure and use of past tenses of the subjunctive mood Pretérito imperfecto de subjuntivo.
4. Indirect speech, changing indirect speech to direct speech.
5. Passive voice, constructions with -se and other impersonal expressions.
6. Complex sentences of purpose.
7. The use of ser and estar: change of meanings.
8. Agreement of tenses of indicative mood and subjunctive mood in sentences.
9. Verbal constructions with infinitive, adverbial participle, and participle.
10. Conjunctions of subordinate clauses.
Assesment Criteria
1. A student understands unadapted texts of various types (artistic, political, fiction) that are read.
2. A student freely expresses thoughts in writing on various topics of social life.
3. A student communicates on various every day and social topics.
4. A student correctly uses the grammatical forms and syntactic structures specified in the linguistic content.
5. A student understands texts of different types and complexity that are listened to.
