Spanish A1

Description

The course is designed for students who do not have any knowledge of the spanish language. Students acquire competence in Spanish at A1 (beginner) level through the linguistic activities of reception (listening and reading comprehension), production and interaction (speaking and writing) and mediation (translation). The content of the course includes the following main themes for the development of communicative competence: introductions, greetings, farewells, countries, nationalities, professions, family, home, studies, work, leisure activities, food, clothing; and linguistic themes: the rules of the pronunciation of Spanish sounds, words, and intonation; the order word in a sentence; the formation of declarative, interrogative, negative, and exclamation sentences; and the formation and use of basic parts of speech. Particular attention is paid to the use of phonetics and grammatical rules in practice. The course is based on the plurilingual approach. A blended learning format is applied (lectures, work in the Moodle virtual environment, independent work) along with various active study methods (group and pair work, discussions, text analysis, listening to audio recordings, role-plays etc.).

Aim of the course

To develop general competences, communicative language competences (linguistic (grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, orthography), sociolinguistic, pragmatic) and communicative language activities (reception (reading and listening), production (oral and written), interaction (oral and written) and mediation (oral and written) at the level of beginner (A1).

Course content

1. Basic pronunciation and intonation of sounds and words. 2. Formation and use of parts of speech. 3. Word order in sentences. 4. Basic spelling rules of words and punctuation rules. 5. The noun: gender and number. 6. The adjective: gender and number. 7. Agreement between the noun and the adjective in gender and number. 8. Definite, indefinite, and contracted articles. 9. Numerals: cardinal: 0–100; ordinal: first-tenth. 10. Personal, possessive, and demonstrative pronouns. 11. Adverbs of place. 12. Prepositions: a, de, con, en, por, para. 13. Constructions with the infinitive of the verb: ir+a+infinitivo; tener+que+infinitivo; deber+infinitivo; hay+que+infinitivo. 14. Present tense of the indicative mood: regular and irregular verbs. 15. The use of the verbs GUSTAR/ENCANTAR. 1. Introducing oneself and getting acquainted 2. Exchange of personal information. 3. Professions. 4. Description of items, place. 5. Colors. 6. Family, kinship. 7. Routines of daily life. 8. Description of the place of residence (apartment, house, dormitory room). 9. Hobbies, leisure activities. 10. Assesment Criteria

1. A student correctly uses lexical units, grammatical structures and pronunciation and intonation patterns corresponding to level A1. 2. A student understands simple texts, dialogues, e-mails, postcard text, simple informative texts. 3. A student understands very short adapted audio and video recordings, simple instructions, phrases and commonly used words related to the basic needs. 4. A student speaks about common everyday topics using very simple phrases. 5. A student asks simple questions on familiar topics about basic needs and answer such questions. 6. A student correctly describes himself/herself and his/her environment; writes a short postcard; fills in simple forms.
