Russian Language B2

Description

The goal of this B2 level course is to deepen all the linguistic skills acquired previously, activate the students’ interest in the Russian language and culture by analyzing and discussing the specificity of social problems in Russia and other important issues. Students develop their morphological, syntactical, and lexical skills, learn to listen to complicated texts and select means of communication appropriate to a situation, communicate in various situations, express their opinion, grasp ideas, determine logical links, and put forward the arguments. Students gain the competence which enables them to communicate logically, fluently, and correctly in Russian in various situations. The form of studies includes seminars, self-study tasks and work in the computerized language teaching/learning lab and virtual Moodle environment (on-line work, synchronous and asynchronous conversations and discussion forums, interactive tests and exercises).

Aim of the course

To develop communicative linguistic competence, which includes linguistic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic components through reception (listening and reading comprehension), production and interaction (speaking and writing) and mediation (translation) linguistic activities at the upper-intermediate level (B2).

Prerequisites

Competence in Russian at B1 level.

Course content

1. Russia of modern times (geopolitics, economics). Public life: opportunities and challenges. Labor market. Faults of the youth. Financial loops. 2. Art and urban architecture. Films in Russian cinemas. Books in our life. Phraseologisms. Jokes. 3. Grammatical categories of verbs, verb moods (imperative mood), functions of the infinitive; adjective formation; 4. The meaning and use of the adverbs ?????-????-???; declension of the compound and phraseological numerals; impersonal sentences; 5. The use of the particles ??, ??, ???, ???; peculiarities of the use of individual verbs; linguistic formulas (the expression of categorical refusal, clarification, surprise, frustration, necessity, prohibition, etc.).

Assesment Criteria

1. A student understands the essence of radio and television shows on everyday subjects, personal or professional topics, when the pace of speech is normal, and the pronunciation is clear. 2. A students communicates in different situations, engages in conversation on familiar, interesting or everyday life topics, for example, about hobbies, career, travel experiences, fashion, or recent events. 3. A student writes a coherent text on well-known topics or topics of interest, writes personal letters; 4. A student describes experiences and impressions, retells the plot of a book or film, expresses his/her thoughts, provides arguments.
