Russian Language B1.2

Description

Students develop advanced lower level (B1.2) competence in Russian through the types of reception (listening and reading comprehension), production and interaction (speaking and writing), and mediation (translation) language activities. Learners continue to improve their phonological, orthographic, grammar and lexical competencies, give oral presentations, participate in role-plays, and discuss the culture and traditions of Russian-speaking countries at B1 level. The course is based on the plurilingual approach. A blended learning format is applied (lectures, work in the Moodle virtual environment, independent work) along with various active study methods (group and pair work, discussions, text analysis, listening to audio recordings, role-plays etc.).

Aim of the course

To develop communicative linguistic competence, which includes linguistic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic components, through reception (listening and reading comprehension), production and interaction (speaking and writing) and mediation (translation) linguistic activities at the lower intermediate level (B1).

Prerequisites

Competence in Russian at B1.1 level.

Course content

1. Psychological portrait, horoscope. 2. Global problems of humanity. 3. About art (cinema, theater, painting, architecture). 4. Travel and orientation in the city. 5. Problems of youth and children in different countries. 6. On a bookshelf. The proverbs: function and interpretation. Getting acquainted with the biography and works of the writer L. Petrushevskaya. 7. Negative constructions with the particles ?? and ??; short adjectives; 8. The reflexive pronoun ???? and the adverb ??-??????. The use and spelling of compound adjectives. 9. Superlative degree of adjectives (suffixes –???- and -???-; reflexive verbs ?????????, ????????, ???????, ?????????, etc. 10. Subjunctive mood; Constructions with ????, ??, ???. Punctuation rules. Pronouns ??? and ???. Expression of concession (the conjunctions ???? and ???????? ?? ?? ???); constructions used to qualify an object or a phenomenon (???????? ???/???, ???????????? ?????, ?????????? ? ????, ??????? ?? ???, etc.). 11. Verbs of perfective and imperfective aspects with the prefixes ?(?)-, ??-, ???-, ?-, ???-, ????-, ??(?)-, ??-, ??-, ????(?)-, ??(?)-. 12. Fractional numerals, the number 1.5 (???????) and the use of such numbers; impersonal verbs (expressing the state of the agent), sentences. Agreement of numerals with adjectives and nouns. 13. Direct and indirect speech. Indefinite-personal sentences. 14 Active and passive participles; the difference and use of the prepositions ??? and ??, ????? and ????? ???, ???.

Assesment Criteria

1. A student reads and analyses general and fiction texts and dramas. 2. A student expresses one’s thoughts and personal views in writing on the topics covered (writes an essay, a letter, a short text). 3. A student expresses, in writing, one’s thoughts on and personal attitude to the topics discussed (writes an essay, a letter, a short text). 4. A student correctly uses the grammatical forms and syntactic structures specified in the linguistic content. 5. A student prepares oral presentations using the grammatical forms specified in the linguistic content and the vocabulary of the topics analyzed in the thematic content.
