Polish Literature of Romanticism
Description
Students are familiarised with the main stages of Polish literature development in the epoch of Romanticism, peculiarities and main features of Romanticism. The works by the most prominent representative of Romanticism, A. Mickiewicz are analysed: the period of Vilnius and Kaunas, the period of Russia and in emigration: Ballads and Romances, Forefathers' Eve, Konrad Wallenrod, Sonnets, Pan Tadeusz, Lausanne Lyrics etc. The works by J. Słowacki are analysed: the dramas Kordian, Balladyna, the poems ‘In Switzerland, Beniowski, the poet’s lyrics. The works by Z. Krasinski: The Undivine Comedy,the Psalms of the Future, lyrics.
The innovation of the language and style by Cyprian Norwid. The intellectual poetry. Democratic and folk aspects in the works by Władysław Syrokomla. Love for Lithuania as for a closer motherland. The creation by Aleksander Fredro. The works by J. I. Kraševski and studies in Vilnius University. The publisher of the ‘Athenaeum’, a representative of the genre of historic novel.
