Multi Lingual Phonetics

Description

The course aims to introduce students to phonetic features and sounds of the Italian, French, Russian and German languages. Students learn to pronounce and stress words in the Italian, French, Russian and German languages and to read various texts (poems, songs, proverbs, and aria). The form of studies includes work in Sanako computer assisted language learning lab where students listen to and record, analyze pronunciation and prosody mistakes. The focus is on combinations of sounds, words, and rhythmic groups of sentences.

Aim of the course

To introduce students with the phonetic features of Italian, French, Russian and German: sounds, compounds, rhythmic groups, sentence intonation. To learn to read target texts (songs, arias).

Assesment Criteria

A student is able to pronounce and transcribe vowels, diphthongs, consonants, consonant-vowel combinations correctly. A student is able to join words into rhythmic groups correctly. A student is able to intonate and stress correctly. A student is able to read target texts in foreign languages (sayings, proverbs, tongue twisters, poems, songs, arias). A student is able to analyze mistakes made in applying pronunciation rules, giving examples.
