English C1: for Engineering and Technologies

Description

The course is designed for students with B2 proficiency in English who seek to acquire the English language proficiency level in engineering and technology-related situations through integrated listening, reading comprehension, speaking and writing activities. It is aimed at development of general erudition, provision of knowledge in basic and applied engineering and technology fields and related fields of studies, development of special abilities to independently apply basic and special knowledge in individual work and professional activity. A mixed form of study is applied: work in the classroom, group work, discussions, case studies, work in Moodle virtual environment, independent work in practical application of theoretical material.

Aim of the course

To enhance and develop the linguistic and communicative competences of engineering and technology students in English for professional use, combining the development of terminology in engineering and technology through the activities of reading, listening, speaking and writing specialised texts at the proficient user level (C1).

Prerequisites

Competence in English at B2 level.

Course content

Assesment Criteria

Student uses English grammar, syntax and lexical units related to the discourse of engineering and technology at proficient user level (C1). A student uses English-specific terminology in engineering and technology, both orally and in writing. A student is able to independently collect subject-specific information, process it creatively and critically, and apply various communication strategies in professional situations. A student is familiar with the methodology of analyzing professional situations and preparing and presenting a report and is familiar with the principles of reading, analyzing, commenting on written and verbal data presented visually.
