Chinese Language and Culture (4)
Description
In this level students will learn about 300 new characters, at least 370 new vocabulary words and 40 new grammatical structures. With words learned in levels 1, 2 and 3 (which will be incorporated in new texts designated for learning new words) it will be a total of about 1400 vocabulary words and 1100 characters. Students will learn new grammatical constructions, improve their reading, writing and listening skills, as well as learn new forms of dialogue construction and participation in a conversation. Learning material is organized in three major topics consisting of four lessons each. First topic: Social Communication (directional complement V+lai/qu (1); structures with gang and gangcai; structure V+hao; directional complement V+lai/qu+obj. (2); structure yibian...yibian...; ba structures (1, 2); zhe structures (1, 2)). Second topic: Sport and Health (comparative sentences with bi (3, 4); verb buru indicating comparison; structure budan...erqie...; structure yuelaiyue; compound directional complement; duplication of a measure word; zhe structure (3); structure yue...yue...). Third topic: Entertainment and Culture (ba structures (3, 4, 5); the probable complement; structure V+de/bu+le; sentences with bei; progressive development of a degree; structure chule...yiwai,...; rhetorical questions with bushi...ma).
Aim of the course
To acquaint students with higher-level Chinese language structures and cultural factors that are important for the formation and learning of this language.

Ability to explain the East Asian region through the prism of language and culture;
