Italian Language and Culture (4)

Description

The aim of the course is to strengthen the Independent user level of Italian as a second language. It includes a thorough consideration of Italian writing and communicative abilities and the use of more difficult linguistic structures. The course focuses at further developing the students’ interaction abilities with regard to the expression of emotions, abstract reasoning and logical argumentation. Some special lexical issues are also accordingly addressed. The subject, together with Italian language and culture V, covers the level B2 of Universit? per stranieri di Siena program (Syllabus).

Course content

Review and reinforcement of previous topics. Expressing and sustaining personal views on a suggested topic. Strategy for expanding vocabulary. Word order as a means of conveying emphasis. Contrastive analysis of the moods Indicativo, congiuntivo and infinito (1). Grammatical forms for objectivity and subjectivity. Expressing thoughts, joy, fear, doubt, uncertainty etc. Contrastive analysis of the moods Indicativo, congiuntivo and infinito (2). Discussions on actual topics. Characteristics of the language of mass media. Reporting statements, utterances, heard opinions of other people. Reading on specific topics.

Assesment Criteria

Knowledge is assessed according to the ten-point system: 10: Excellent, exceptional knowledge and skills, 94-100% correct answers. 9: Strong, good knowledge and skills, 85-93% of correct answers. 8: Above average knowledge and skills, 75-84% of correct answers. 7: Average knowledge and skills, 65-74% of correct answers. 6: Satisfactory knowledge and skills, 55-64% correct answers. 5: Knowledge and skills meet the minimum requirements, 45-63% of correct answers. 0-4: Knowledge and skills do not meet the minimum requirements, less than 44% of correct answers.
