Curriculum Designing and Management

Description

The purpose of this course is to introduce the main curriculum theories and principles of curriculum design. It is anticipated that students will be able to define predominating concepts of teaching programming, describe teaching “closeness and openness”, identify stages of designing vocational education programmes. Course content consists of: sectorial analysis, research on vocations and qualifications; methodology of teaching goals, methods of their operationalization; evaluation of goal achievement; evaluation of vocational curriculum; standards and standardization of vocational education and training; standards and teaching programmes; implementation of new teaching programme.

Course content

Curriculum as a holistic entirety of educational elements. Concept of curriculum quality. Quality criteria. Curriculum management: substance and principles. Methodology of curriculum designing. Major curriculum parameters and their interface. Societal needs and education. Research invocations and qualifications. EU and National Qualification Frameworks. Professional, educational standards, study field descriptions. Taxonomies of teaching/learning goals. Methodology of teaching/learning goals and methods of their differentiation and formulation. National standards of education and general programmes, their purpose. Interface between general programmes and subject teaching programmes and plans. Assurance of transition from different education levels. Teaching programme as a document legitimising curriculum. Methods of developing subject teaching programmes and plans. Optimisation and assessment of teaching/study programme. Designing of learning outcome based curriculum: criteria of subject teaching programme and plan quality. Didactical elements of teaching/learning curriculum and their interaction. Concept of competence and skill in society and educational system. Interface between teaching/learning goals and learning outcomes. Methods of teaching/learning achievement assessment.

Assesment Criteria

The concept of curriculum quality management explained and quality criteria defined. Systemic elements of curriculum designing listed and described, their mutual interaction explained. Levels of learning outcome taxonomy in cognitive, psychomotor and emotional areas defined. A subject/ module teaching programme/ plan developed for a concrete learning stage, applying logical stages of the programme/ plan designing, consistent with learning needs and educational organisation resources. Learning material, aids and optimal teaching methods necessary to achieve learning outcomes. Links between core education curriculum quality criteria -competencies, educational goals and objectives, subject learning outcomes, resources, teaching/ learning forms and methods, learning achievement assessment criteria - explained. Learning achievement evaluation criteria formulated and adequate assessment methods applied.
