Storytelling for Audiovisual Media

Description

This course contributes to the students’ general knowledge about scriptwriting for audiovisual projects, i.e., for TV/Film, radio, theatre, and live productions. The course explores the transformation of the texts when they are taken to the screen, differentiates writing conventions between film, radio, theatre and other storytelling situations, explores the relationship between the reader/viewer and the text. The course is designed to help the student learn the formats and terminology necessary to learn effective audiovisual script writing. The course will provide multiple writing assignments; therefore, students will be able to analyze, create and present writing samples for a variety of media outlets.

Aim of the course

To acquaint students with the principles and specifics of story (script) creation; to present the peculiarities and techniques of text creation for various audiovisual projects; to create understanding of how to prepare a script for a specific project

Course content

Students prepare a scenario outline (idea), demonstrating their knowledge of different scenario types, formats and structural implementation options. Students answer questions about and analyze current trends in the audiovisual scriptwriting market (Lithuania and the world). Students are able to distinguish between different forms and purpose scenarios, critically analyze them. Students prepare a variety of script writing assignments in the classroom and independently.
