Tourism Language and Communication
Description
Students get acquainted with the main models of tourism, business and communication processes in the field of tourism. The tourism market, its demand and supply aspects are analyzed. Not only the behavior of tourists in Germany and Lithuania is highlighted, but also various travel products, tourism companies, intermediaries, the trip is shown as a complex of various factors. A mixed form of study is used: group work, role-plays, discussions, text analysis, work in MOODLE virtual environment (synchronous / asynchronous consultations, discussion forums, interactive tasks), independent and project work using theoretical material.
Aim of the course
Students will know basic theoretical principals of tourism and will be able to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.
Prerequisites
Contemporary German I-V.
Course content
Tourism communication as a separate area of business communication. Terminology problems (Tourismus, Touristik or Fremdenverkehr?). Tourism as an economic factor. Basics of tourism management.
Demand analysis: comparison of German and Lithuanian tourist needs and behavior. Supply analysis (tourism products, tourism service providers and intermediaries, tourist routes). Tourism services: package travel (Pauschalreisen) and individual travel (Individualreisen). Tourism service providers and intermediaries: "traditional" and virtual tour operators. Travel organization (travel planning and realization). Communication in a travel agency: oral consultations and correspondence. Hotels, catering services, passenger transportation. Comparison of tourist route in Germany and Lithuania. Communication in the field of tourism marketing (advertising, public relations, fairs, direct marketing). Types of excursions. Guide profession.
Assesment Criteria
Knowledge is assessed according to the ten-point system:
10: Excellent, exceptional knowledge and skills, 94-100% correct answers.
9: Strong, good knowledge and skills, 85-93% of correct answers.
8: Above average knowledge and skills, 75-84% of correct answers.
7: Average knowledge and skills, 65-74% of correct answers.
6: Satisfactory knowledge and skills, 55-64% correct answers.
5: Weak knowledge and skills that meet the minimum requirements, 45-63% of correct answers.
0-4: Knowledge and skills do not meet the minimum requirements, less than 44% of correct answers.
