Cybercrime

Description

In this course students are introduced and analyse criminal acts committed in the cyberspace, done for some financial gain and following other aims. In the course aspects both of general part and of special part of criminal law namely crimes against security of electronic data and information systems actual for the analysed subject are revealed. In the first lectures students are introduced with the definition of cyberspace, types of cybercrimes and its genesis, forensic features of such crimes, arising issues on determination of jurisdiction at the cyberspace. Also students are introduced with institutions and instruments in use to cope with cybercrimes, peculiarities of application some pre trial investigative actions during pre trial investigation stage. The remaining classes are used to introduce and discuss on various types of cybercrimes both on theoretical and practical levels through case-law studies.

Aim of the course

Learn to recognize, identify, analyze and apply legal norms related to cybercrimes. Also it to determine jurisdiction and be familiar with the peculiarities of investigative activities in collecting and capturing data relevant to the investigation of cybercrimes.

Prerequisites

International public law, European Union law, Criminal law, Criminal procedure law, Civil law, Enlish language (levels of language proficiency B2 or C1) including sufficient background of legal English. Also it is desirable to have backgrounds on psychology, information technology, forensic science, sociology, criminology.

Course content

To attend this course, it is expected that the students have thorough knowledge of (substantive and procedural) criminal law, and basic knowledge of EU law.

Assesment Criteria

Evaluation is as follows: 10-9: Excellent knowledge and skills. 8-7: Good knowledge and skills, there may be minor mistakes. 6-5: Average knowledge and skills, there are mistakes. 4-3-2-1: Knowledge and skills are doesn’t meet minimum requirements. 0: Minimum requirements not met. Failure to attend exam or failure to submit the homework on time / fixed unfair behavior during the exam.
