Every year, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) degree students have to face the task of designing their study schedule. Groups of freshmen stare at the offered list of subjects with the most puzzled looks on their faces at the beginning of the academic year. However, it is not as difficult as it may seem. All you need to know is what you want to take, then find out what you must take, and finally look at the subjects you can choose from.
VMU offers enjoyable environment for studies at all levels of university education, and students arrange their schedule for the lectures (the study plan) according to the requirements of the chosen study programme and their own intentions.
Undergraduate (Bachelor's) level subjects are divided into three groups: A, B and C.
Group A comprises the subjects of specific study fields and foreign languages. This subject group consist of 4 areas and one subgroup of foreign languages:
VMU degree students much choose at least one study subject from all four sub-groups of study fields (at least 16 credits) without having to choose the subject from the group of his own study program.
English and other foreign languages
A foreign language subgroup comprised of compulsory English language courses and other subjects taught in the Institute of Foreign Languages. A student must choose not less than 12 credits and not more than 24 credits:
Group B - alternative introductory subjects of study fields, taught in study programs other than the student is studying.
Group C - subjects of the student's chosen study program (specialty), including coursework, practice and final thesis.
On the second day of the academic year, the first-year degree students register to the subjects of A and B groups on computers in Leonido Donskio reading-room (Putvinskio g. 23). The students also have to sign to the specialty courses (Group C) in their departments. The international students register to the courses without much of a hassle. They are usually assisted by the specialists of VMU International Cooperation Department, who gladly give their help and advice when needed.
Students should remember that the first two weeks of each semester is the time when ones may drop out or add courses to their programmes of study. After the registration period, the university expects students to attend and complete all the courses in which they are enrolled. Regular class attendance is necessary for the maximum success in the university. Each student is responsible for the programme of courses listed during the registration.
International students who come to study at VMU according to exchange programmes are introduced to VMU online registration procedure during the Orientation Days Programme (one week before the semester).
