Gallery 101
Vytautas Magnus University Art Gallery 101 is a space situated within an inter-academic context that encourages connective processes in contemporary art and employs a range of strategies: educational, visual, performative, and experiential. The gallery presents the work of Lithuanian and international artists through solo and group exhibitions, as well as through other formats characteristic of contemporary practice. The gallery’s conceptual directions are contemporaneity, performativity, education, and mediation.
Every autumn, the gallery announces an open call for those wishing to organise or participate in curated exhibitions, and it also accepts proposals for events on a rolling basis. The gallery is closed in July, August, and January. Volunteers and interns are always invited to contribute.
VMU Art Gallery 101 was established in 2008 and was located at Laisvės al. 53 until 2014. It is currently located in the premises of the VMU Faculty of Arts at Muitinės g. 7 in Kaunas. From 2008 to 2017, the gallery was headed by art critic and historian Daiva Citvarienė. In autumn 2017, curator, art manager, and mediator Vaida Stepanovaitė took over as director of the gallery, and from winter 2018 these responsibilities were taken over by artist and curator Margarita Žigutytė. Since autumn 2021, the gallery has been headed by photographer and art curator Milda Gineikaitė.
