VMU Theatre
VMU Theatre is the first professional university theatre in Lithuania and a new theatrical space which is dedicated to joint projects by prominent and promising young artists from Lithuania and abroad. The focus here is on the presentation of various forms of theatrical expression, the cultivation of audiences open to innovations, and the encouragement of innovative trends on stage and in new media art.
VMU Theatre is also a creative studio, a lab for the students of Acting and other programmes at the VMU Faculty of Arts where they can work together with professional theatre artists, participate in the process of professional theatre and explore and research it. The VMU study programme of Acting is the only acting study programme in Lithuania which is based on high academic quality standards and international professional norms. The studies are designed to prepare highly qualified artists who are capable of creatively combining practices of acting, directing and writing with skills of motion and vocal in their professional careers in theatre, cinema, TV and other fields of contemporary arts. The programme is expected to educate independent creators who are open to innovations and able to successfully integrate into various fields of contemporary arts and creative industries.
Director of VMU Theatre and head of the Acting study programme is Assoc. Prof. Goda Piktytė, a prominent Lithuanian actress who was nominated for the Golden Cross award.
