Vytautas Magnus University, celebrating the centennial of the University of Lithuania, invited everyone to various events dedicated to this occasion: concerts, exhibitions, conferences, cultural events and various initiatives. The events were free of charge and open to both the university community and the general public.
Open Universities were a series of events dedicated to commemorate the centennial of the University of Lithuania. The events were open to the public and were organized by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). A series of public lectures began in January. Each month, a different university hosted meetings with scientists, architects, political scientists, historians and other inspiring figures.
On February 16, 1922, the grand opening of the University of Lithuania took place in Kaunas. One hundred years later, the biggest festive event was held on the same day, commemorating the centennial of higher education and the importance of the year of Lithuanian universities in the state context.
The solemn event at Žalgiris Arena was featured the history of the University of Lithuania, as told through various stage- and film-works, presenting the cultural and intellectual life of Kaunas over a century.
A solemn meeting of the Senate of Vytautas Magnus University, during which members of the university community were honored, took place on April 28. The event featured an outstanding concert by university performers and musicians.
A space of remembrance of 1922-2022 was opened at Vytautas Magnus University, inviting to learn more about the history of the University of Lithuania and the origins of Vytautas Magnus University.
The procession of the communities of KTU, LSMU and VMU in Laisvės Alėja (Laisvės Avenue), expressing collectivity and respect for historical memory, and marking the beginning of a new academic year as well as the Day of Science and Knowledge, took place on September 1. The culmination of the procession was marked by a festive concert.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the University of Lithuania, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) hosted the World Lithuanian University (WLU) Symposium that took place on October 27–29, 2022.
Inspired by this tradition born in the Lithuanian American community in 1969, to commemorate the centennial of the University of Lithuania, in 2022 VMU once again invited representatives of Lithuanian and world Lithuanian scientific and creative communities to gather at the premises of Vytautas Magnus University, this time at the VMU World Lithuanian University Symposium.
The symposium was held at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. It was also possible to participate in the event on the Zoom platform or watch it online on VMU’s YouTube channel.
