Karl-Erik Norrman: it’s very important to defend European values today
“This year, it’s very important to defend European values: in times of war and opposition against democracy, human rights, freedom of movement etc. That will be one of the main reasons of our meeting in Kaunas. We also think it’s significant that we’re meeting in a university – here we will discuss the promotion of the role of universities in European cultural cooperation”, says ambassador Karl Erik Norrman, founder and Secretary General of the European Cultural Parliament (ECP). On 8–11 September, he will participate in the ECP’s session in Lithuania – at Vytautas Magnus University and the premises of Kaunas the European Capital of Culture 2022.

VMU is Continuing and Expanding Its Support for Ukrainians
Since the start of war in Ukraine, Vytautas Magnus University has been actively involved in various support initiatives and activities for Ukrainians. The university offers possibilities to start or continue studies, provides support on accommodation or scholarships and free Lithuanian language courses for Ukrainians who have fled the war. Moreover, it has hosted a tandem language-learning event whose participants exchanged knowledge of Lithuanian and Ukrainian languages, while the VMU Education Academy has established the Ukrainian Centre, the first one of its kind in the world, where various cultural and educational activities are organised for the Ukrainian community.

We invite you to use the outdoor areas of the Sports Centre in June
VMU Sports Centre invites students and employees of the University to spend the month of June being active and taking advantage of the outdoor spaces of the President Valdas Adamkus Sports Centre: the treadmill, the beach volleyball court, and the basketball courts. Pre-registration is required for those wishing to exercise.

As the school year is coming to an end and summer is about to start, we invite you to spend your free time in an active and healthy way by attending the sports activities organised by the VMU Sports Centre for students and staff of the University from 1-23 June.

Joint Picnic of Ukrainians and Lithuanians
On the International Children's Day, 1 June, Ukrainian citizens residing in Kaunas and Kaunas citizens are invited to take part in a solidarity picnic, which will take place in the VMU Botanical Garden from 5 p.m. One of the longest open-air art galleries in the Baltic States, aimed at communicating freedom and the brutality of war, will also be launched on this day. The initiators of the picnic are 1k.lt and the International Congress "CoHappiness. Rewilding & Rethinking."

VMU invites you to 3×3 Basketball Tournament
The season of the newly established Lithuanian 3×3 Basketball League is about to start! This Saturday from 10:30 a.m. (05.14) at the VMU President Valdas Adamkus Sports Centre “ELITAS” group will play, and on Sunday (05.15) from 10:30 a.m. the most awaited clash of basketball players from the “PRO” group will take place at the “Hoptrans” Arena, which this year will be located at the VMU Botanical Garden, where the Vytautas Magnus basketball team will also compete.
