VMU is to introduce the brand new Fashion Design BA study programme, which will be delivered together with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). The programme was first presented at the new premises of VMU Faculty of Arts (7 Muitinės Str., Kaunas) on 10 May.

VMU Faculty of Arts is delighted to get involved in the Kaunas Old Town arts and design scene. The introduction of the new Fashion Design programme coincided with the opening of the faculty’s new premises in the Old Town.

Based on the structured British teaching strategy, the university will offer contemporary fashion design studies which will equip students with all the necessary skills to create and develop good design: contextual studies and analysis, sketching, designing, cutting, modelling, sewing, professional garment presentation, portfolio development. The programme will be taught by famous Lithuanian fashion designers who have successfully developed their own businesses and collaborate on a regular basis with local and international clothing companies.

The fashion industry is gaining momentum in Lithuania. The VMU Faculty of Arts believes that the image of Lithuania as a “sewing-room” can be changed into an example of a country with intelligent fashion design.

The fashion design garments, moments from collection presentations and the creative process (sketching, programming) by the program’s tutors Agnė Kuzmickaitė, Agnė Biskytė and Rita Kazokaitė were presented during the Design Week on 5-11 May.

VMU and UCLan will offer two joint BA study programmes – Fashion Design and Music Production. The duration of the programmes is 3.5 years. Upon graduating, VMU and UCLAN bachelor diplomas are awarded. Admission to Fashion Design is conducted via LAMA BPO system, while the admission to Music Production studies will be initiated at Vytautas Magnus University.
