VMU Community to Take Part in Online Seminar With USA Ambassador to NATO

On Tuesday, April 19, 6.30 p.m., at K. Donelaičio g. 52, room 314, VMU academic community will gather for a five-way Web-based seminar, which will be held by the USA Ambassador to NATO Mr. Ivo Daalder. Students and lecturers from VMU and universities in the USA, Slovakia and Albania will be able to present their questions.

Before the online seminar, participants will be provided brief instructions on how it will be carried out. The students are encouraged to decide on the questions they will ask before the seminar. The organizers provide a document attached below, which offers background information and biography of Ambassador Daalder, information and house rules of the program as well as additional details on NATO partnerships. After the seminar, the students and professors will be requested to fill in a survey, also attached below, and e-mail it to usnatopublicaffairs@state.gov on April 20.

This is a new project with the United States Mission to NATO (USNATO). The participants of the online conversation will be Matej Bel University (Slovakia), University of Our Lady of Good Counsel (Albania), Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania), Xavier University (Cincinnati, USA) and the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Mr. Ivo Daalder.

Ivo H. Daalder was appointed the United States Permanent Representative on the Council of NATO, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, by President Barack Obama in May 2009. He was a Director for European Affairs on President Clinton’s National Security Council staff from 1995 to 1997, where he was responsible for coordinating U.S. policy toward Bosnia. He also was a Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, specializing in American foreign policy, European security and transatlantic relations, and national security affairs. He is the author of twelve books, including most recently, In the Shadow of the Oval Office: Profiles of the National Security Advisers and the Presidents they Served—From JFK to George W. Bush (with I. M. Destler) and the award-winning America Unbound: The Bush Revolution in Foreign Policy (with James M. Lindsay). Ambassador Daalder was educated at Oxford and Georgetown Universities, and received his Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
