Workshop for Researchers on Career and Personal Development

Vytautas Magnus Univesity (VMU) V. Kavolis Transdisciplinary Research Institute invites early career researchers (PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, junior researchers) to a workshop on developing a successful career in and outside academic settings. The workshop will take place on May 16, 10:00 a.m.
- Date – 16 May 2024 at 10:00 AM (Lithuania time).
- Duration of the workshop – 2 hours (2.5 academic hours).
- Language – English.
- Format – online workshop via MS Teams.

About workshop
The aim of this session is to explore the scale and scope of opportunities for researchers in academic and non-academic settings. Topics to be covered:
- Career paths;
- Developing a needs-based approach;
- Research-related skills, knowledge and experience;
- Wider skills and career growth;
- Planning and developing publications;
- CVs, pitching and entrepreneurship.
About the trainer. Dr Kemal Ahson has spent the last two decades in various roles in academia, government, and industry. Currently – split between London and Helsinki – he is the Managing Consultant of Lifeworld Ltd (www.lifeworld.info). On a practical level he has raised over €400 million through contracts and funding. His research interests include examining arts-based pedagogies, the public engagement and participation in science and technology, exploring the use of ‘space’ and ‘place’ in different economic contexts, doing ‘imagined geographies’ through travelling theories’, and the ‘radical otherness of children’. His PhD, from University College London (UCL), examined innovation in biotechnology – in economic, epistemological, geographical, and ontological terms.
