VMU to Cooperate with University College Cork

VMU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in relation to academic cooperation with the University College Cork – National University of Ireland, Cork. The purpose of the agreement is to foster cooperation and strengthen friendly relations through educational and academic exchange.

“Our plans include cooperation in the fields of natural and social sciences and the humanities: we are planning not only student and lecturer (scientist) exchange but also double degree programmes and other projects related to the development of the academic staff’s competences. UCC also conducts a programme aimed at talented students that is similar to VMU’s Academia Cum Laude, so this is another field where we can learn from one another and exchange experiences”, VMU Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis explained, outlining the cooperation opportunities.

“Furthemore, since the city of Cork has a rich Lithuanian community, we will keep ties with them through the activities of the VMU platform of World Lithuanian University”, Prof. Ineta Dabašinskienė, VMU Vice-Rector for International Relations, added.

University College Cork has been ranked as “Irish University of the Year” by The Sunday Times five times (most recently in 2017). In 2015 the UCC was named as one of the top performing universities by the European Commission-funded U-Multirank rating system. Today the UCC is one of the leading research institutions in Ireland, having received funding of over 96 million euros for research.

University College Cork is the first VMU partner in Ireland.
