VMU Doctoral Student was Awarded Banaitis Scholarship

Gerda Pilipaitytė, a PhD student in Philology at the Department of Lithuanian Studies at Vytautas Magnus University, was awarded with a third nominal scholarship of S. Banaitis, a signatory of the Act of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania, for her research in the activities and works of a Lithuanian traveler, publisher and publicist Julija Pranaitytė.
The S. Banaitis scholarship was established at the university in 2016, by his grandchildren living in Canada, in honor of the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuanian statehood. The purpose of this scholarship is to support and encourage the most talented students of the University, who are conducting research on the personalities, events, processes and organizations of the period of First Independent Republic of Lithuania (1918-1940), which, in one way or another, are related to the activities of the signatory S. Banaitis and his environment.
Gerda Pilipaitytė, a laureate of the S. Banaitis scholarship, a PhD student of Vytautas Magnus University in Philology, is writing a scientific article on the topic: “Julija Pranaitytė’s Worker: The Relationship between Nationality and Interculturalism”. Student is glad that her research was noticed because she sees tremendous benefits in writing it.
In her work, PhD student analyses life of Pranaitytė, with an emphasis on her connection with her homeland and other cultures, taking into account the manifestations of nationality and interculturalism, researching travel books, her edited expatriate magazine, translations, etc.
