VMU condemns events in Israel and calls for solidarity

In response to recent events, Vytautas Magnus University community unequivocally condemns the terror in Israel—the attacks inflicted on a peaceful civilian population by the Hamas terrorist group—and expresses its solidarity with the people of Israel and support to the victims and their families.

“On behalf of Vytautas Magnus University community, let me express our sincere condolences to the people of Israel, who are currently suffering from terrorist attacks. It is difficult to find the appropriate words of condolence and to describe the magnitude of pain felt by people who suffered in these attacks and by those who lost their loved ones. This appalling war is not just against Israel, it is also against values of human life, democracy, dignity, and freedom. I condemn any violence and abuse against a peaceful population and believe that the courage and determination of Israeli people will help rid their country of terrorism and hostilities”, the university’s Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis said, expressing solidarity with Israel.

VMU also expresses support to the partner institutions of higher education located in Israel and provides psychological assistance to students from Israel who are studying at VMU.

“בשם קהילת אוניברסיטת ויטאוטאס מגנוס, הרשו לי להביע את תנחומינו הכנים לעם ישראל, שסובל כעת מפיגועי טרור. קשה למצוא את מילות התנחומים המתאימות ולתאר את גודל הכאב שחשו אנשים שסבלו בפיגועים אלה, ואלה שאיבדו את יקיריהם. המלחמה המחרידה הזו היא לא רק נגד ישראל, היא גם נגד ערכים של חיי אדם, דמוקרטיה, כבוד וחירות. אני מגנה כל אלימות והתעללות נגד אוכלוסייה שוחרת שלום ומאמין שהאומץ והנחישות של העם הישראלי יסייעו לו לפטור את ארצו מטרור ומעשי איבה”, אמר רקטור האוניברסיטה, פרופ’ יוזאס אוגוטיס, והביע סולידריות עם ישראל.
