Short description of the project

Digital and diverse are two key words that describe the Europe of the 21st Century, present and future. The main aim of the FutEur project was “to support smart, sustainable and inclusive growth through the provision of best practice examples for the development of digital competence and the integration of migrant communities”. Marginalisation can no longer simply be categorised by educational achievement, employment or ethnicity alone. In our increasingly digital and diverse society the potential for marginalisation is now associated with many, more complicated issues and elements that need to be addressed. Digital competence involves the confident and critical use of ICT for employment, learning, self-development and participation in society providing the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for working, living and learning in the knowledge society. Migrant integration requires that migrants are included as equal members, with equal opportunities to lead just, dignified, independent and active lives as the rest of the population. When migrants feel secure, confident and welcome, they are able to invest themselves in their new country of residence and make valued contributions to society. The objectives of FutEur were:

  • To analyse and validate best practice for the development of digital competence for a wide range of target groups to include early school-leavers, low-skilled workers, women, senior citizens, migrants and disabled persons;
  • To analyse and validate best practice for the integration of migrant communities including pre-migration support systems, supports from country of origin post-migration, host country integration supports including social, economic, cultural and political integration;
  • To exploit the best practice examples throughout Europe by presenting two FutEur publications complete with tools and resources on DVD;
  • To promote a focus on recycling best practice methodologies and philosophies encouraging experts and professionals to engage in critical reflection on past achievements on which to build future interventions.
