According to Assoc. Prof. Rūta Eidukevičienė, Dean of the VMU Faculty of Humanities, students in this faculty study three foreign languages at the same time, two of which are official languages of EU countries. Additionally, the teachers of the study programme “Foreign Languages and Cultures: German Language and Communication” often invite to their lectures representatives from German capital companies operating in Lithuania, which offer career opportunities to students studying German.
Guests from Sutherland Global were also interested in the career prospects for international students in Lithuania and discussed the financial support provided by the University.
Later, company representatives met with VMU students studying foreign languages to learn about their career and salary expectations and discussed how proficiency in foreign languages could enhance career growth opportunities. The guests shared information about the company’s activities and plans for expansion in Lithuania, as well as employment opportunities during their studies, and emphasised that in the field of information technology, employees are increasingly valued not only for their knowledge of this field but also for their command of one or more foreign languages.
The students also had the opportunity to practically demonstrate their language skills by conversing in German with representatives from Sutherland Global Services.
