On July 4th at 7 p.m., a free screening of the documentary film “The Real Ones / Справжні” by Ukrainian director Denys Vorobyov will take place in the Senate Hall of Vytautas Magnus University (VDU). The event will be attended by the director and the film’s creative team. The world premiere will take place on July 6th.

Ukrainian director and military documentarian Denys Vorobyov made the documentary “The Real Ones/ Справжні” about the residents of the Carpathians who became volunteers during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country, the Russian Federation.

“At the beginning of 2022, almost every Ukrainian felt the call to help and stand shoulder to shoulder to hold back the enemy. A large number of Ukrainian families from the eastern and central regions of Ukraine left their homes hoping to survive and hide from powerful shelling and combat operations. Most of these people found shelter in the Carpathian Mountains, where a small local population did the impossible to welcome and provide for the endless stream of displaced persons,” the press release states.

The film shows stories of the Carpathian residents, volunteers, and businesspeople who sheltered many Ukrainian families. It also features the story of the creation and operation of the Carpathian Volunteer Center.

The filming took place throughout 2024 in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The general producer and idea author was Andriy Martyschuk; the script was written by Vitaliy Bardetsky and Dmytro Tsyperdyuk.

“The Real Ones” is an example of Ukrainian unity, an example meant to show the world the true qualities of the Ukrainian people — sincerity, respect, honesty, kindness, and care for their homeland,” Tsyperdyuk noted.

The event will be held in English. The film is shown in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
