Playback Theater “Vakhtery” performance – “Keys to Understanding”

On November 25, 17:00 playback theater “Vakhtery” from Kharkiv, Ukraine invites everyone to their performance “Keys to Understanding”. The event will take place at Vytautas Magnus university (VMU).

The university is a place where the magic of knowledge is forged. It welcomes everyone, regardless of age, gender, nationality, or language, into the great family of alma mater. It’s a place for those who have an insatiable thirst for learning something new.

However, the path to mastering knowledge is fraught with challenges — sleepless nights preparing for exams, difficulties in communication between professors and students, and, last but not the least, language barrier.

We all, people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, meet within the university walls to see one another, listen carefully, and strive to find keys to mutual understanding.

Playback is a theater of improvisation, where actors play stories of the audience without preparation, turning them into an amalgamation of metaphors, sounds, movement, music and meanings. Those who wish can tell their story and see them played back to them on the stage at once.

Playback theater “Vakhtery” is a theater from Kharkiv, Ukraine who happened to be on tour in Lithuania when the full-scale invasion started. Ever since we’ve continued our work here putting emphasis on working with refugees and immigrants. Our theater started as a youth studio in Kharkiv for internally displaced people from the Luhansk-Donetsk region and has grown over the past decade.
