On September 24, Richard Martin-Nielsen, Chargé d’Affaires at Office of the Embassy of Canada in Lithuania, visited Vytautas Magnus University. The newly appointed diplomat met with Prof. Ineta Dabašinskienė, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and discussed opportunities to promote a more active involvement of Canadian Lithuanians in the activities taking place at VMU as well as student exchange between VMU and Canadian universities.

After this meeting, Mr. Martin-Nielsen visited Valdas Adamkus Presidential Library-Museum and Centre Universitaire des Pays Francophones, where he met the teachers of the centre and the Dean of the VMU Faculty of Humanities, Assoc. Prof. Rūta Eidukevičienė. During the meeting, a discussion was held regarding potential exhibitions of Canadian artists and public lectures by prominent Canadian academic and public figures.

VMU has increased its efforts to cooperate more closely with Canadian institutions of higher education (HEI):VMU’s students go to Canada as participants of exchange programs and HEI staff make visits to both countries.

Closer cultural ties are expected to be fostered by the Centre Universitaire des Pays Francophones, which was opened at VMU Multifunctional Centre for Research and Studies in 2016, as its activities include cooperation with the Francophone part of Canada.

On 3 September 2019, an exhibition dedicated to the Canadian Lithuanian community was opened at VMU.

VMU researchers also organise an international and interdisciplinary conference for Canadian studies which welcomes experts from various fields.
