Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Japan visits VMU

On July 11, Japanese delegation visited Vytautas Magnus University. The delegation consisted of the Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Japan, Mr. Shigehiro Komaru, Rector of Fukuyama City University (FCU) Toshiyuki Sato, Secretary General of Shibuya Ikueikai Foundation Mr. Hideki Anai, and the Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan, Aurelijus Zykas.

The guests met Vilma Bijeikienė,Vice-Rector for Communication, Vaidas Dačiola, Head of the International Cooperation and Marketing Unit of the International Cooperation Department, and Arvydas Kumpis, representative of the Center for Asian Studies.

During the meeting possible perspectives of future cooperation between VMU and FCU were discussed touching upon theongoing formats, such as summer schools and Japanese speech contests. Speech contests have been annually organized by the Center for Asian Studies since 2018 and supported by the Shibuya Ikueikai Foundation and Fukuyama Transporting company which is headed by Mr. Shigehiro Komaru. This year the final stage of the competition is scheduled for October 13 and we invite everyone interested in the Japanese language to follow the latest information and actively participate in the competition.

Shigehiro Komaru is an active philanthropist. Thanks to Mr. Komaru’s support, VMU library receives a shipment of publications (worth 500,000 yen) for Japanese language teaching and learning every year.
