On 24 February, the International Forum “Pursuing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula: Joint Actions of Ukraine and Lithuania towards the Long-Lasting Peace” will take place at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) in Kaunas. The Forum will be welcomed by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and top Lithuanian and Ukrainian politicians, experts, and scholars will discuss energy security, human rights, and the restoration of justice.

A platform for aligning strategic actions

The main aim of the Forum is to discuss the practical engagement of the democratic community in support of Ukraine’s efforts and the Peace Formula proposed by the President of Ukraine to ensure lasting peace in Europe and the world.

The Peace Formula proposed by Zelensky is being discussed at international level, including multilateral formats such as the European Union and the United Nations. Ukrainian Peace Formula will be in the focus of the International Summit initiated by Ukraine to launch its implementation. Therefore, the Forum to be held in Kaunas will serve as complementary platform to scrutinize further common steps of the Peace Formula realization.

To discuss energy and justice

At the Forum, politicians, diplomats, lawyers, and academics will address the challenges that Ukraine’s energy sector is facing and explore ways to ensure Russia’s accountability for its war and human rights crimes.

The discussion “Energy Independence and Green Future of the EU and beyond: How Could Successful Post-War Recovery of Ukrainian Energy Sector Become a Game-Changer?” will focus on the lessons learned from the EU and Lithuanian recovery from the energy crisis, decreasing the dependence on Russian energy resources. Discussions will take place on identifying the place Ukraine could take on the new energy map of Europe.

During the second discussion, “Restoration Of Justice as a Blueprint for Ensuring Accountability of the Aggressor State and Deterring Further Crimes”, experts will address the tools and measures for ensuring justice and accountability of Russia, including the establishment of the Special Tribunal of Russian Aggression against Ukraine and the international compensation mechanism for damages resulting from Russia’s illegal actions in Ukraine. Prevention of impunity for similar war crimes by other totalitarian regimes will also be considered.

The Forum will be held in English. You can find the link to the live stream of the Forum on the VMU Youtube channel here.
