VMU Lecturers on the Events of January 13th: There Wasn’t Even a Thought of Not Going If One Could
During the events of January 1991, many felt a duty to be in Vilnius at the Seimas or the Television Tower, while those in Kaunas went to Sitkūnai and Juragiai to stand guard. Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) lecturers and students also gathered at the university’s central building on S. Daukanto Street, hoping to protect not only VMU but also the television station of the Kaunas branch of Lithuanian Radio and Television, which began broadcasting on the night of 13 January, after Soviet paratroopers seized the Vilnius Television Tower.

Business and University Cooperation: Set to Jointly Train German-Speaking Employees
“Employees who speak German earn at least ten percent more, especially since knowing the language and understanding the culture can facilitate easier integration into the labour market,” says Kristina Kikalienė, the CEO of LITIT, IT company based in Lithuania. In December, UAB LITIT and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) signed a cooperation agreement committing to strengthen the partnership between higher education and business by providing students of the German Language and Communication programme with competencies in business administration, marketing, and IT, helping them to integrate more easily into the dynamic labour market.
The Seminar on Transdisciplinarity Brought Together Researchers from Different Countries
On the 4th of December, 2024, Vytautas Kavolis Transdisciplinary Research Institute organised an international seminar, “Disciplines and their Boundaries”, where members of the academic community and guests explored the challenges and opportunities of transdisciplinarity in the social sciences and humanities. The seminar paid tribute to the legacy of Vytautas Martynas Kavolis (1930-1999), a prominent diaspora scholar, sociologist, and publicist, and discussed his methodological ideas on interdisciplinarity.
