Ambassador of Spain to Hold a Public Lecture at VMU

On October 3rd at 16.00, Her Excellency the Ambassador of Spain in Lithuania,  María Nieves Blanco Díaz will give a lecture titled “NATO as an International Organisation: Security Challenges and Future Perspectives” at the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy (V. Putvinskio st. 23-311). The lecture will be conducted in English and is open to anyone interested.

H.E. María Nieves Blanco Díaz entered the diplomatic career in 2005. She has extensive experience in security issues, having been posted for eight years at the Permanent Representation of Spain to NATO (2015-2018 and previously 2007-2012). She also worked as an Advisor on Migration Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation between 2012 and 2015. From 2005 to 2007, she served at the Consulate General of Spain in Havana and led the cultural programming team of Casa de América, Spain’s main institution for public diplomacy with the American continent, between 2018 and 2020.

From 2020 to 2022, she served as a cultural counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Hungary. Since the past year, María Nieves Blanco Díaz has been serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain in Lithuania.

From 1 July to 31 December 2023, Spain holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the fifth time in its history.
