T4E to Include Three More Partners and a Ukrainian University
Transform4Europe Alliance, which has already developed clear values and goals over the past two years, is growing, and three more European universities are joining the alliance. Transform4Europe has welcomed Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portugal), which is rated the best university in the country for the fourth year in a row by the World University Ranking, the University of Primorska (Slovenia), which is renowned for upholding international values, and Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne (France), which is a part of the Lyon University higher education and research network, connecting 11 higher education institutions in France. In order to show support for Ukraine, Mariupol State University has been invited to join the alliance as an Associate Member.

Competition for VMU Graduate Ignas Bielevičius Nominal Scholarship
Mr. Ignas Bielevičius, a graduate of Vytautas Magnus University’s (VMU) Faculty of Informatics (IF) who graduated from the university in 2009, has established one-off nominal scholarships for VMU students, one of which is 500 euros, in 2020. The purpose of this scholarship is to financially encourage students for their successful study results and active scientific and/or social activities.

Winners of the VMU Doctoral Competition Announced
In October, VMU doctoral students and doctors who have defended their dissertations no later than a year ago were invited to participate in the science popularisation competition "Doctoral Research 2022: the Interesting Science" ("Doktorantų tyrimai 2022: įdomusis mokslas"). The aim of the competition is to increase the visibility of VMU doctoral students' research and to encourage as well as develop their ability to present their research not only in a scientific way, but also in a popular way – in a way that is comprehensible to the general public and that arouses their curiosity.

VMU Community’s Christmas
The centennial of the University of Lithuania has brought us many beautiful opportunities to spend time and celebrate together. This has been a very special year, and I invite everyone to come together on 22 December 2022 to celebrate the upcoming holidays and our common achievements, to enjoy a concert by the VMU Chamber Orchestra and, most importantly, to spend time together. After all, Christmas is special when we celebrate it together.

Learning Ukrainian as Resistance to Russia’s War
“I came up with the term compassionate linguistics after three hours of talking with a group of academics, teachers and students from Ukraine and Lithuania who joined me online for a roundtable discussion on language, soft power, culture, and the historical connection between Lithuania and Ukraine. I define compassionate linguistics as the desire to learn another’s language out of a sense of empathy, support, and mutual respect,” writes Laima Vincė in the November 2022 issue of "Draugas News".

VMU Signed MoU with Keele University
In an online meeting on Friday 9 December, the Memorandum of Understanding was approved which had been signed in November by Vytautas Magnus University Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis and the Academic Director of Global Partnerships at Keele University (UK) David Law. The meeting was attended by representatives of both universities as well as the British Ambassador to Lithuania Brian Olley and Director of Cormack Consultancy Group Gintaras Steponavičius.

Support Actions for the Ukrainian Academic Community at VMU
As Christmas approaches, Vytautas Magnus University is organising actions to support the Ukrainian academic community.
