VMU commended by the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson
In October 2023, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) received the highest evaluation – three Equal Opportunity Wings – from the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson for its achievements in mainstreaming equal opportunities at the University. This means that the University is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all members of the community, aiming to enhance not only the quality and outcomes of research and studies but also the conditions of study and work.
Mariupol State University’s Centre to Open at VMU
"What separates us from Russia is that we are fighting for our nation, for our people first, while they are fighting to take our lands. But people are the true treasure of this country, especially the youths. University is not walls, it's people", the Rector of Mariupol State University (MSU), Prof. Mykola Trofymenko said while participating in the event dedicated to the opening of MSU Centre at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas on October 9th.
Open Dual Lecture on Dissonant Heritage
On 17 October, 5 p.m. (EEST), the Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA) is organising an open conversation/lecture with two speakers: VMU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linara Dovydaitytė and EAA doctoral student and junior researcher Anu Soojärv. The lecture, titled Dissonant Heritage: Re-evaluating the Soviet Legacies, will focus on the heritage of Soviet legacies. The event will be streamed online.
VMU Faculty of Law to open exhibitions to mark the Baltic Way
VMU Faculty of Law organizes three exhibitions to mark the Baltic Way – an important historical event of the unity of nations and the path to democracy. The exhibitions, which will be displayed throughout the months of October-March, are organized implementing the EU project „Remember Bacha“ which seeks to scientifically analyse the work of outstanding citizens in the fight against totalitarianism, as an example of Europeanism and intensive work for a better society, a memory of the fight for freedom and a balanced society.
VMU condemns events in Israel and calls for solidarity
In response to recent events, Vytautas Magnus University community unequivocally condemns the terror in Israel—the attacks inflicted on a peaceful civilian population by the Hamas terrorist group—and expresses its solidarity with the people of Israel and support to the victims and their families.

Prof. Adam Kuper to Hold a Public Lecture and Seminar at VMU
On Thursday, 19 October, at 16:00, Adam Kuper, Professor at the Department of Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science will hold a public lecture and seminar "From the Museum of Other People to the Cosmopolitan Museum". The lecture will take place at Vytautas Magnus University, Faculty of Social Sciences (Jonavos str. 66 Kaunas, room 323).
Online Lecture to be Held on Ukraine’s Resilience
On Thursday 12 October, 5 p.m. CET (6 p.m. Lithuania time), open online lecture “Sources and drivers of Ukraine's resilience in withstanding full-scale Russian aggression” will be held by Yaroslav Zhalilo, Deputy Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies (Ukraine).

If it’s the war in Ukraine, most people know [that] Putin and Russia are spreading a lot of disinformation, so you can’t show that side if you know it’s based on lies”, says Associate Professor at Howard University (USA), former CNN executive producer and journalism expert Jennifer Thomas, who held a lecture at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) on the importance of journalism in the era of disinformation.
