Very soon, on the first Friday of May, the third “Freedom to Create” conference will once again bring together students and schoolchildren. Dedicated to the anniversary of the re-establishment of Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) and to the concept of artes liberales, this year’s event will feature nearly sixty presentations – the largest number yet.

From artificial intelligence to stress management, from female conductors to rowing, from cancer treatment to rural architecture, and from politics to children’s games, this year’s “Freedom to Create” conference clearly showcases VMU’s broad educational opportunities and the influence of the liberal arts on the study process.

“There will always be those within the community, the youth, who do not fit into established programmes; there will always be those who are searching and creating. Thus, the learning system should be such that it does not confine the learner to a narrow programme framework, but instead allows them to shape their own tasks and learning programme,” says VMU Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis.

This year’s conference will also feature special guests who will deliver presentations on topics relevant to students. Inga Jončienė, a representative of “Alliance for Recruitment”, will discuss the labour market in Lithuania in her English presentation titled “Labor Market Situation in LT: Hiring for Attitude, Investing into the Competencies.”

Dr. Lukas Žemaitis, a geneticist and co-founder of UAB “Genomika”, will demonstrate that science is an art in his presentation “Connected Trajectories – The Artistic Side of Science” (Sujungtos trajektorijos – mokslo meninė pusė).

The conference will conclude with a conversation between VMU Education Academy Assoc. Prof. Aušra Lisinskienė and world kickboxing champion, VMU Education Academy student Sergej Maslobojev (VMU ŠA), “How to achieve your goals? What to be and what not to be? How to find the best version of yourself?”.

During the event, awards will be presented to students who have earned scholarships for their academic and artistic achievements. Conference participants and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the presentation that best embodies the conference theme – artes liberales – and the author(s) of this presentation will be awarded special prizes.
