“The university life here is very active”

Student of East Asia Cultures and Languages// VMU Bilateral Exchange studies in Taiwan, National Cheng Kung University
Describe how you value your experience abroad.
The experience abroad can be greatly valuable to anyone. The courses offered at NCKU are quite of a big variety and you can choose from quite a lot of interesting things.
University life here is very active, you can find different activities and groups that interest you and the foreign student community is very friendly and willing to explore Tainan and the whole of Taiwan together. So you definitely do not need to worry about being alone here. I think, I greatly improved my presentation and discussion skills. I made quite a few friends and found new things and ways of thinking about life since this is a whole new culture that is very different to anything I have ever experienced. So this opportunity definitely gives you a chance to get to know a whole new culture and mindset.
Did you have a mentor abroad? In what kind of matters did he/she help you?
We get a student mentor who helps with all the document stuff and reminds you to fill out all the forms and documents that you need when coming here and while being here. You can sign up for a University Buddy program before coming to Taiwan, you get a student from University who contact and help with any questions about university, the country and the city.
How well did you feel integrated abroad?
I feel quite well integrated because the majority of classes that I go to are full of foreign students and the ones where we have locals are very friendly and helpful to us.
