VMU Rector’s Greetings to the Community on the 11th of March

253

Dear members of Vytautas Magnus University’s community,

The eleventh of March represents freedom. Freedom and independence of Lithuania. This year, we are celebrating this important day more sensitively than ever, because we understand how fragile freedom is. The same aggressor nearby is committing inconceivable violations against the world, against humanity and against universal values. These are not the methods of the 21st century.

History has shown us how freedom can be lost and how difficult it is to regain it. We can only think of how to do our part. Specific ways to help. A large puzzle consists of many small pieces. And each of them is important.

In critical situations, we must find the way forward. We have seen that unity can work wonders. Both on the thirteenth of January and today. Both in Ukraine and in Lithuania.

Freedom requires responsibility and bravery. To think and act responsibly, to fight injustice and face life’s challenges bravely.

It’s true that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. So, let’s not give up, raise the flag of our country high, and show our support. History has also shown us how important each personal contribution can be.

I wish freedom for us all: freedom in our hearts, freedom in our lands, freedom for the heroes of today and of the future!
