We will consider the nature of "Magic", "Science" and "Religion" in historical context, the relationship between learned and popular thought and practice, and the interplay of disciplines we would define oppositionally (e.g., astrology and astral magic with astronomy, medicine and healing), while exploring underlying assumptions about God, Nature and natural forces. We shall look at the impact of printing, the challenges to traditional academic philosophies, the conflicts between learned and popular systems of belief, and the continuing vitality of religious and magical thinking.

Dalykas skirtas „magijos“, „mokslo“ ir „religijos“ sampratų aiškinimui istoriniame kontekste, santykio tarp mokslinės ir nemokslinės minties atodangoms bei disciplinų, kurios savo prigimtimi yra priešiškos (pavyzdžiui, astrologija ir žvaigždžių magija bei astronomija, medicina ir savigyda) sąveikai, kartu tyrinėjant Dievo, gamtos ir natūralių jėgų persidengimą. Taip pat kurso metu bus analizuojamas spaudos ir spausdinimo poveikis tyrinėjamoms problemoms, iššūkiai tradiciniam akademiniam filosofiniam diskursui, konfliktai tarp moksliniu ir nemoksliniu pagrindu grįsto tikėjimo, religinio bei burtais grįsto mąstymo gyvybingumas ir tęstinumas.
