Step 1 – Choose study programme at VMU

For 2019–2020 academic year, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) offers over 40 Bachelor and Master’s degree study programmes that are taught in the English language.

Step 2 – Pay the application fee

The application fee of 100 EUR (not refundable) should be paid before applying on-line. Bank transaction can be made directly from your or your agent’s bank account to Vytautas Magnus University. Application fee can also

After getting acceptance confirmation or mediation letters from VMU International Cooperation Department, the applicant is requested to make an appointment at the Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate personally. Please, be informed of and prepare the documents required by Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate in order to apply and obtain national multi-entry D type visa for studies. Usually, the decision on the issue of a visa is made within 10-14 days after the receipt of application. However, sometimes it takes longer time depending on the specific country where the applicant comes from.

 

Note! Students who have the national multi-entry D type visa for studies must arrive in Lithuania first. If your flight is not direct to your final destination, you cannot leave the airport as you will not be allowed to continue your trip to Lithuania.

Step 3 – Apply on-line

Fill out the application form online and attach the required documents:

  1. Copy of High School / Bachelor / Master’s degree diploma and its supplement (Transcript of Records / Mark sheet). Documents must be provided in the original language and translated into English, certified by a Notary and approved by an Apostille (for citizens of countries acceding to the 1961 Hague Convention).
  2. Proof of English proficiency. Minimum requirements: TOEFL 87 iBT / 534 PBT; IELTS 5.5.; level B2; or an official document from an official institution showing you had courses in English or studied English language. Note! Please check each programme’s access requirements for proof of English proficiency and present the documents according to programme’s requirements.
  3. Letter of motivation (1200–3000 characters).
  4. Curriculum Vitae.
  5. Copy of passport or other document of identification. Note! Document should be valid at least until October 2022).
  6. Copy of document showing paid application fee of 100 EUR (Note: the name of the applicant and the date of payment should be indicated).
  7. 1 recent photo (3×4 cm).
  8. Filled and signed Letter of Concurrence.

Note! All applicants are required to assess High School / Bachelor / Master’s degree Diplomas and Transcript of Records at Vytautas Magnus University. Academic recognition is carried out on the basis of the academic assessment of qualifications. In this case, documents are assessed to determine whether foreign qualifications are comparable to the secondary or higher education qualifications conferred in the Republic of Lithuania.

Step 4 – Get ready for an interview

In order to select the best and most motivated applicants, VMU International Cooperation Department’s coordinators and programme coordinators interview applicants by Skype. You will be contacted personally after submission of the online application with further details (date and time) of an interview.

Step 5 – Get confirmation of admission

After applying online, the application documents are sent to the admission committee. It takes up to 14 working days for applicant to receive information on their application  from VMU International Cooperation Department. All accepted candidates receive Letters of Acceptance which contains further instructions on how to finalize the admission (for example: to pay the tuition fee for the first study year; to provide High School / Bachelor / Master’s degree diplomas if it was not provided by the application deadline for serious reasons; to prolong passport, etc.).

Step 6 – Sign the Study Agreement

After receiving the Letter of Acceptance you need to sign the Study Agreement. More information will be provided by the coordinator at VMU International Cooperation Department together with further details on how to finalize your admission.

Step 7 – Pay the tuition fee

The tuition fee for the first study year should be paid no later than indicated in the Letter of Acceptance. Bank transactions can be made directly from the applicant or agent’s bank to Vytautas Magnus University’s bank account. The tuition fee can also be paid by an agency for 1 or more applicants at once. A copy of the tuition fee payment should be scanned and attached in the on-line application system to the applicant’s files.

In case of visa refusal and other serious personal circumstances (upon the decision of university) VMU refunds paid tuition fee back to the applicant. Applicant is required to fill the request form provided by VMU International Cooperation Department with all the required data, sign it and send the original document with additional required documents to VMU International Cooperation Department.

Applicant may ask to refund the paid tuition fee to his personal or someone else’s bank account. In case the applicant requires to refund the paid tuition fee to his family / friend / agent’s bank account, the applicant is required to provide VMU with original authorization document in English, certified by a Notary and Apostille (please note countries acceding to the Hague 1961 Convention). Applicants from the countries not acceding to the Hague 1961 Convention should legalize the documents with the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Step 8 – Book accommodation in VMU dormitory

International full-time students, who would like to be accommodated in VMU dormitories, are requested to apply online when the accommodation application opens. Please follow the information on the website for further information.

Step 9 – Check information for visa

Applicants from non-EU/ EEA countries are required to obtain a national multi-entry D type visa for studies from the nearest Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate of their home country. After applicant pays the tuition fee, and the tuition fee payment is received by Vytautas Magnus University, the applicant is provided with a Mediation Letter in order to obtain the national multi-entry D type visa for studies. Check the list of Lithuanian Embassies and Consulates. If you are coming from a foreign country where Lithuania does not have a representative Embassy or Consulate, the applicant should be informed where the nearest Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate is located and if it provides national multi-entry D type visa for studies. Vytautas Magnus University also provides applicants with a Confirmation Letter, issued in English, for the Intermediate Embassy or Consulate.

Note! If needed, the original Acceptance, Confirmation and Mediation Letters are sent to the applicant by VMU International Cooperation Department using Lithuanian post services. Depending on the recipient’s country, it usually between 2 weeks and 1 month to get the original documents, therefore the applicant should be aware of time constraints. In case applicants would like to receive the original documents faster and earlier, they should book international express mail service to take the documents from VMU International Cooperation Department. Covering the costs of the express mail service is the responsibility of the applicant or the agency.
