From Graduates to Current Students: “VMU is a Platform for Discovery”

The traditional discussion “Resilience and Optimism of VMU Alumni around the World” featured the valuable perspectives of VMU international graduates and covered two main topics: Entering the Lithuanian job market after graduation for foreign graduates and Academic career path insights.

Nargiz Hajiyeva, an alumna of the Political Science and Diplomacy Master’s programme (2015 – 2017) at Vytautas Magnus University from Azerbaijan, centered her presentation on tips for building a successful research career. She emphasized the importance for current students to gain practical research experience through internships, attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to connect with fellow researchers and professionals. Additionally, she encouraged students to seek out mentors for guidance and support throughout their research career and highlighted the significance of regularly updating their curriculum vitae. Hanna Rusinava, an alumna of the Political Science and Diplomacy Master’s programme (2018 – 2020) from Belarus, generously shared valuable tips that have shaped her career journey. She emphasized three indispensable elements for a thriving career: staying motivated, drawing inspiration from various sources, and having a support system—whether from colleagues, mentors, or friends.

Hüseyin Ograk from Turkey, an alumnus of the Marketing and International Commerce Master’s programme (2017 – 2019) spoke on the topic “Entering the Lithuanian job market after graduation for foreign graduates”. He emphasized the effectiveness of using LinkedIn, the importance of students’ professional profiles and digital presence, and the significance of maintaining professionalism. Maka Berulava from Georgia completed her Bachelor’s in International Politics and Development programme at Vytautas Magnus University (2019 – 2023). Maka empowered current students to use their time effectively and take advantage of all opportunities during their study years: become a volunteer to enhance their skills and build a strong network, gain hands-on experience through internships, consider participating in the Erasmus exchange program, invest time in learning a new language, and focus on the quality of your assignment and exam performance. Anastassiya Tyutyunnik from Kazakhstan, an exchange student at Vytautas Magnus University, is currently in her third year of studying to become a Foreign Languages School Teacher (English and German). She shared her impressions about this event: «I found it very insightful, the speakers covered different aspects of finding a job (or better say a professional path), and it was really reassuring to hear that throughout the failure that the speakers faced they achieved their goals, it made my belief in my success stronger».
